A Window To Christmas

This week the creative team from Bloom HQ converted Bloom’s Flagship Store into a fabulously festive must-see! Using Kat MacLeod’s Christmas illustration on the window, borrowing pre-loved furniture from Greg Hatton (oh how we love his work) and dotting trinkets, sweet pea flowers and vintage bits n bobs around the shop - it’s never looked so ravishing!

So whether you pop in or stroll along Chapel Street for a window shop, drop us a line or two here to let us know what you think.

Enchanting Shadows

Mirka Mora's whimsical yet sophisticated approach to life and art has had a significant and enduring influence on Natalie Bloom both on a personal and creative level. Natalie was lucky enough to work as one of Mirka's assistants as she recently painted the windows of the sunroom at Heidi I, as part of the current must-see exhibition titled MIRKA showing at Heide Museum of Modern Art until May 1 2011. The highlights are the endearing, personal messages that feature on some of the works which were given as gifts to the Reeds during the course of their lasting friendship and the enchanting shadows her works on the window cast on the floor when the sun shines! Don't miss it!

It's Halston We Love!

Nobody does disco better than comeback kid, Halston. Renowned for its luxurious but minimalist designs, Halston was synonymous with the heady days of Studio 54 with everyone from Bianca Jagger to Angelica Houston gracing the dance floor in a Halston number.

Fast forward 30 years and new life has been breathed into the label with the launch of Halston Heritage – a hip diffusion line that reinvents archived pieces. From their retro-chic tiered chiffon dresses and electric asymmetric mini dresses, it’s not hard to see why Halston Heritage already has a cult following amongst the likes of ChloĆ« Sevigny and SJP.

Get the Halston look with our new Disco's Night Colour Collection!

Oh What a Night!

Last month the world’s biggest shopping event, the Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, took Sydneytown and 16 other cities around the globe by storm. Bloom along with the cream of Australia’s fashion labels, got together in support of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer – and had a darn good time doing so!

Jaguars were transformed into a lavish car-boot sale, macaron master Adriano Zumbo whipped up sweet treats in this season’s on-trend colours and we were on hand with free makeovers and insider tips and tricks.

In case you couldn't make it, here are some images from the night...

We're finding ourselves buying more and more online! Our latest online loves (influenced by Natalie Bloom) were these irresistible plates by one of her favourite French illustrators Nathalie L'Ete. Our Natalie picked them up from Anthropologie after she was tempted by one of our recent blog posts sharing the good news that Anthropologie are now shipping globally. These plates have made mealtimes all that bit more inspiring and enjoyable.

Feed Your Skin

We’re firm believers in the saying, ‘You are what you eat’.
Glowing, luminous skin starts from the inside out, so here’s our wrap-up of six super foods that should make it onto your next shopping list:

1. Coconut Water
2. Avocado
3. Blueberries
4. Wild Salmon
5. Mangoes
6. Spinach

Coconut Water
The health world is buzzing about Coconut Water – and for good reason! This natural source of cytokinins (a group of plant growth hormones that help regulate cell growth), potassium, antioxidants and lauric acid, balances pH levels, strengthens and hydrates connective tissues and promotes smoother skin.

Avocado
Rich in Vitamin C and E as well as omega-3 fatty acids, Avocadoes are ideal for keeping skin plump and youthful and preventing dryness.

Blueberries
Blueberries are an antioxidant powerhouse that help the body manufacture collagen for soft, supple skin. In fact, recently the US Department of Agriculture compared 40 common fruits and vegetables and ranked blueberries as number one in terms of antioxidant activities.

Wild Salmon
Wild– not farm raised – salmon is one of the best food sources for omega-3 fatty acids that help limit water loss in skin cells and keep skin supple.

Mangoes
While Mangoes are high in antioxidants, it’s their Vitamin A content that makes them standout. Without enough Vitamin A in your diet, skin may appear drier and dull. Vitamin A is important for cell repair and contributes to better oxygenation of the tissue.

Spinach
Popeye was onto something! Spinach – and other green leafy vegetables like cabbage, kale and watercress – are high in Vitamins A, B, C and E; mineral iron and antioxidants that are essential for keeping your blood healthy and skin bright.

Our Fave Things

Although you'll find your favourite Lip Gloss or Bloom Organics must-have at our Flagship store, did you know that we also carry an edited collection of products that make our heart skip a beat? The criteria for making the cut is pretty simple – they have to inspire us and make you feel good.

Some of our current faves include the delectable cookbook, Gwinganna...From Garden to Gourmet, which comes from Australia's most innovative organic health retreat, and the premium organic housecleaning range from Murchison-Hume.

Drop by and see us sometime soon, so we can introduce you to our favourite things, and hopefully they will quickly become your favourite things too!

Blog Post From Natalie - The School Holidays.

To keep these school holidays creative I organized a creative art class for my girls and a couple of their friends. My good friend Miriam Bereson who, in her previous work life, was an art teacher came over and directed the kids. Wow, she was an inspiration and setup a super creative mood.

The kids created some masterpieces!

Some other creative school holiday inspiration is to check out lmnop.

I'm also looking forward to taking my kids to ACMI and Art play.

Happy holidays,
Natalie

Raw and Authentic Morocco

Only just returning from several weeks in Morocco, Natalie Bloom knew her time away would be a welcomed break, but little did she know it would profoundly change her outlook.

Raw and authentic, Morocco was such a creative eye-opener. From the endless alleyways of tiny shops selling mountains of spices and impressive Zelij tiles, to the Riads hidden behind simple doors and lush, colourful gardens at Jardins Majorelle, I felt inspired by every moment of our trip. But my overall highlight was simply sitting on a rooftop terrace reminiscing about Patrick Lichfield’s glamorous and still current photograph of the beautiful and damned, Talitha Getty, that was taken in Marrakech during 1969.
